One of our BryceLeonardScheer traditions is to have a get together after everyone has finished up with their Meet the Teacher for the upcoming school year. This year it worked out that we actually did our get together on the night before Meet the Teacher.
We met at the Scheer's house around 4ish so we could take the kiddos to the splash pad at the end of Miss Gina's street. The plan was to let the kids play for a little bit while the guys finished with work and before dinner.
Miss Gina busted out her handy-dandy sno cone machine and made the kids a sno cone to eat while we walked down the street. The kids loved her sno cones and said it was almost as good as the Sno Cone Lady!
Before we headed out the door, Miss Jodi took this picture of the kiddos...which I love!
We got to the splash park, slathered sunscreen on the kids, and let them have at the water. Us Mommas sat on the bench and got everything organized. We hadn't been there 3 minutes before Landry and Grayson collided with each other. We reminded all of the kids to slow down, watch where they were going and pay attention to what they were doing. We didn't want anymore collisions or for anyone to get hurt. Well...those were famous last words!
Miss Jodi moved up a little closer and crouched down to get some pictures of the kids running back and forth under the water. They were having a ball...squealing and laughing...just having FUN!!
This shot right here is the picture Miss Jodi took about 45 seconds before the DRAMA happened. You can see GT and LP running and neither one of them was looking where they were going. They collided again. Miss Jodi saw the whole thing happen {I was getting my phone out of the bag since I was getting a text from Daddy} we all heard the fall. Jodi said that it was a bad hit and that Landry hit her head on the concrete.
Gina made it to LP first and I was right behind (Jodi and I both felt like we were in slow motion and couldn't move fast enough). We scooped her up since she was crying and in doing so, we realized she couldn't stand up and she had a bloody nose. Once I got her in my arms, she stopped crying, her eyes rolled back and she went stiff, then limp. I think this might have been the most scared any of us had ever been. I yelled that we needed to call 911. Thankfully, she started crying almost immediately and we were all so relieved!!
By this point, Ashton and Grayson were panicked. I remember looking over at Grayson and he had his face in his towel and was crying so hard. Ashton was hysterical. Miss Gina was talking on the phone with 911 and Miss Jodi took over in comforting Ashton and Grayson with the biggest and tightest hug ever. Anna, Macy, and Carly also stepped up and did a fantastic job of trying to make ARB and GT feel better. Once Miss Gina got off the phone with 911, she took the other kids back to the house while Miss Jodi stayed with me to wait for the paramedics. Poor Miss Gina had the hard job of reassuring the kids while not knowing what was happening with us.
Jodi and I got Landry talking, but all she wanted to do was snuggle me and go to sleep. We asked her every question under the sun trying to keep her awake. It seemed like it took the paramedics FOREVER to get there. Once they arrived, she totally FREAKED out. She wanted no part of them at all. She didn't want any part of their equipment...NOTHING. They were awesome and kept their distance as much as they could so she could get comfortable with them. She finally calmed down and asked them what their names were. From that point on she talked NON-STOP!! At one point they even asked if her talking this much was normal...I gladly said YES!
The firemen left since they weren't needed and we were left the the two paramedics. About the time the firemen left is when Daddy got there and she could not have happier to see him! She answered the paramedics' questions and let them check her out. She had a pretty good bump on the back of her head (we think her back hit first and took most of the impact and her head followed), and the paramedics also think the bloody nose came from Grayson's arm hitting her when they bumped into each other. They also think she briefly passed out from the initial pain/shock. We got the all clear from the paramedics that she was okay along with some things to watch for just in case. Then they asked her if she wanted to see the inside of the ambulance.
As we were walking over to the ambulance, I said I needed a picture of the ambulance and Jodi had already taken it--we are so on the same wavelength most of the time. Then we looked at each other and we both felt nauseous. It wasn't until that point when I knew she was fine that I felt sick to my stomach. It was so incredibly scary. It was such an emotional time. And...we had only been at the splash park for about 8 minutes before the accident happened.
She felt safe enough in her Daddy's arms to take a peek inside the ambulance. She gave the paramedics a few hi-fives and we walked back to Miss Gina's.
Once we arrived at Miss Gina's we made sure the big kids were okay....that was traumatic for them too! They saw that Landry was fine which made them fine. There was a lot of hugging and reassuring. Not long after we got back, Mr. Andrew and Mr Bill arrived for more hugs and reassurance. The kids went upstairs to play while we got dinner going.
Watching her play, you would have never known what had just happened. She was her normal, funny and spunky self with a bit of a headache (which didn't slow her down a bit). The paramedics told us that kids are surprisingly resilient, thank goodness for that! Unfortunately, our Landry Paige has shown us her resiliency more times than we care for. She is our accident and injury prone child. She is the one that if something can happen, it is probably going to happen to her!
Before we left to go home, we sent the kids upstairs to clean up and Miss Jodi followed them with her camera. I am SO glad she got this HAPPY picture of them...it is one of the BEST pictures we have of all 6 of them together. Looking at this picture, you would never know we had a whole lotta drama a few hours earlier. I love these 6 kids. Gina and Jodi were awesome through the whole thing and if something like this had to happen, I was so happy it happened with them to help!!
Landry has been totally fine. Both girls slept with us on Thursday night which made us all feel better. Landry had a few nightmares, but that was to be expected. Ashton, bless her heart, had a hard time closing her eyes to go to sleep, she kept replaying the incident in her head and was so afraid something was going to happen to her sis while she was sleeping. She asked us a million times if we were sure it was okay for her to go to sleep. Ashton is VERY protective of Landry and always has been. Ashton spent all of Friday by Landry's side and made sure she was fine.
I cannot even begin to describe how scared I was. I feel like I was a mess, but at the same time I feel like we all handled it very well. When the kids fall Gina, Jodi, and I are pretty good at not swooping in and making a big deal at first so, when the kids saw the three of us swoop in and react, they knew it was a big deal.
It could have been so much worse and we are so beyond thankful that it wasn't. The only lasting effects to come out of this drama filled event is that now, when Landry hears sirens she FREAKS out. She panics and will come running to us crying and wants to be held. She used love seeing the firetrucks and firefighters at the grocery store or wherever, but now she wants nothing to do with them. She gets terrified and you can see the pure fear on her face. When we put her to bed at night she asks us, "What will the sounds outside be? Where are the firetrucks going? Not here, right?" Bless her three year old heart!
This BLS Back-to-School Dinner was one to remember...but not in a good way. We want this to be the first and last drama filled dinner where 911 is involved. We prefer uneventful get togethers!

even though that was weeks ago....and i already wrote this post myself, i STILL had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes reading this. i swear, it's like i bottled up all the fear/tears/etc that night...and now "reliving" it gets to me immediately!
excuse the repetition, but i'm sososososoSO flippin' grateful that lp is okay! and i'm with ya...i prefer gatherings with a little less DRAMA!
love you guys!
Poor baby and poor momma(s) having that stress. So so glad she is ok!
I already heard this story, but I got tears in my eyes reading it! So scary! I feel bad that she gets scared when she hears sirens. I'm sure it won't last. Like you said...resilience! So glad it turned out ok and that last picture of the 6 kids is absolutely wonderful!
