Friday...7.18.08

We always start our vacation on a Friday which means we leave Thursday night at Ashton’s bedtime and drive all night. She sleeps and does great…this also means we have to stop less and there isn’t much traffic. We decided that with Landry being 6 months old, we weren’t brave or crazy enough to try an overnight car trip for her first long trip. So we decided to leave after her 4:00 am feeding. We planned the girls would go back to sleep until it was time to stop for breakfast. They did…kind of. Ashton did better than Landry. Landry…the poor girl was so confused as to why she was in the car and not her bed. She didn’t like that it was dark and she couldn’t really see anything. Needless to say, Ashton couldn’t sleep with Landry fussing so I hopped in the backseat with girls and Landry was all better since she could see mommy. Both slept until around 7ish.

Ashton’s two favorite things about driving to Alabama are having pancakes at McDonalds and watching movies in the car. This is a real treat for her because the only time she gets to watch movies in the car is on the way to Waco and Alabama to visit grandparents. Bobby had gotten the movie "Enchanted" for her and kept it for our trip so she was THRILLED! She is always such a good car rider…she colors, listens to her music on the ipod, reads, and talks on her pretend cell phone (this is the most hysterical thing ever…she talks to everyone she knows! I LOVE it) Landry did good…she only really cried when she was hungry which was always before the 4 hour mark and there wasn’t anywhere for us to stop so I could feed her. Once she was fed…and not easily…that girl was SO distracted by everything…she was fine.

Overall…the trip was not as bad as I had expected. We left our house at 5:10 am and arrived in Huntsville around 6:30 pm. By around 3:00 Landry just wanted to be out of her carseat. We got to hear our 6 month old have a screaming tantrum…that girl can scream. I am not so excited to see what her tantrums will be like when she is TWO!

Ashton and her Mamo got cozy and read some Junie B. Jones. Mamo even snuggled with her until she fell asleep since it was her first night there.
