It is no secret that I love Baylor and Baylor Athletics. I have been a big fan since back in the day when I was a student there. Even when our Athletic programs were not very good, I was still a big fan. I love that I am not a fair weather fan because it makes times like this so much more exciting.
Sometimes I love being spontaneous....it doesn't happen often, so when we actually are, it is that much more exhilarating! This has been a record breaking football season...our quarter back won the Heisman Trophy this year (along with breaking numerous other records), the football team made it to their second bowl game in I don't even know how many years, and if they win in the Alamo Bowl game, they will have their first 10 win season in about a zillion years.
Since I am a letter winner and an alumni, I have the option of buying tickets before they go on sale to the public. When I got the email back in early December regarding Alamo Bowl tickets, Bobby and I threw around the idea, but decided it would be hard for just the two of us to go and we weren't sure how Landry would do at the game so we passed.
Well... fast forward to Wednesday morning, the day before the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. Grammy called and asked if we wanted to go to the game. Miss DeAnn was sick and wasn't going to be able to go so she offered the tickets to my mom. (How sweet is she?!) I really wanted to go but declined because the Olson's were coming into town on Thursday night and we didn't have anyone to watch the kids. After some more thought, we called Grammy back and said give us 30 minutes before you pass the tickets on. We made an attempt to try and get all the details worked out. Things started to fall into place and we made the decision to go for it! So it was settled: BB and I were heading to San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl! Woooooooo-Hoooooooooo!!!
The girls were bummed and excited all at the same time. They were bummed to not be going with us, but they were pumped to hang out and have a sleepover at Auntie Megan's house with Parker, Chase, and Brodie. We got to Lorena right around lunch time so we met everyone at Mazzio's pizza and dropped off the girls. After lunch they made a trip to the park since it was such beautiful day. Auntie Megan knows me so well and snapped some pix of the kids so I could have them!
The kids had the best time...and we are so glad Auntie Megan agreed to keep them on such short notice!
We drove down to San Antonio and checked into our hotel. There was green and gold flung all over the place which made me super excited. We walked on the River Walk and met up Grammy, Grampy, Auntie Heather, and Jon. We hung out and chatted for a few minutes before we set out to find the girls and Parker a souvenir. While we were walking around, we walked past the Alamo since Bobby had never seen it before.
After checking in with the girls, we headed over to the Alamo Dome. I seriously loved seeing way more Baylor fans than Washington fans as we walked around.
{Oh...I had to throw this picture in the mix....I love my girlies dressed in their Baylor gear. They were supporting the Bears from afar!}
Bobby, Jon, Erin, Grammy, Grampy, and Auntie Heather
Our Baylor Friends...Erin, Bobby, Roddrick, Stacy, and Gabe
Roddrick, Stacy and I were in a few classes together and became really great friends. Roddrick and Gabe played basketball at the same time I was a manager for the women so we spent lots of time up at the Ferrell Center together! We were so excited to meet up with them and reminisce about the old days. They live in Louisiana now so we don't get to see them often.
We added their kids (Karston, Gracyn and Braxton) into this picture
After hanging out and chatting until the doors opened, we went inside and found our seats. We took in every second of the experience.
The Hubs was in charge of the camera during the warm up and he took a ton of pictures of #10 Robert Griffin III. RGIII is such a great guy, he is such a down to earth and humble guy too. We were really looking forward to watching him play in person!
I have to say that the National Anthem always brings tears to my eyes and I'm sure it is because I grew up around the military. I loved that they used real active duty military personnel to hold the flag. Lee Greenwood sang "God Bless the USA" and the National Anthem. I had tears in my eyes and goose bumps all over--it was amazing!
The score looked more like a basketball score, but that fact that my Baylor Bears won was AWESOME!!
RGIII was tackled by his teammates after the game. The players swarmed the field and the Alamo Dome was electric and crazy!!
We had the best time! We are so glad that we seized the opportunity and went down to San Antonio. This is definitely a memory we will never forget! Being spontaneous is exhilarating especially when it is not something you normally do!
Sic Em Bears!!
