Last week, Bobby and I went on a trip to Mexico for his work. I'm not gonna to lie...I was a lot freaked out, but super excited at the same time. I was excited to spend some much needed time on a beach with my hubs...we don't have a ton of "Bobby and Erin" time so I was looking forward to that. I was a lot nervous about spending 5 days on the beach with his work peeps (many I had never met before) worried that I wouldn't fit in. And I was worried because I don't really like traveling far away when our family of four is not all together...I tend to get really concerned about things that I probably shouldn't--I am not typically a "Negative Nellie".
I spent a couple of weeks getting my "Sub Plans" together for Bobby's parents who graciously flew in from Alabama to take care of our girls for us. If you are not a teacher you may not know the term "Sub Plans" so I will fill you in....they are the lesson plans and details a teacher leaves when he/she is having a substitute to help things run smoothly. I wanted to make things as easy as possible for Bobby's parents....and I am a teeny bit of a control freak and I knew that if it was me, I would want to have as many details as possible. Also this left little room for the girls to make up their own things--not that they would do that. Not to mention, the girls are very much schedule oriented and thrive on things being consistent so this was just another way of making sure they weren't completely thrown for a loop.
The sub plans included daily schedules, directions to and from everywhere they needed to go, every emergency number/address they could possibly need, people to call if they needed anything, a menu, acceptable meal and snack choices for the girls, a bunch of misc. info down to what was in each of Landry's drawers since I knew she would mess them up with all the wardrobe changes she makes in a day. Anything they would/could need was in the "Sub Plans".
Let's face it....coming to take care of an 8.5 year old and a 3 year old is a lot of work especially with ALL of the running around that is involved and when you are not used to it. We never once worried about the girls being in the care of their grandparents (we are lucky to have two sets of very capable grandparents for the girls and we trust them completely which is nice). That made us leaving just a little bit easier knowing they would be well taken care of while we were gone. And let's be honest....these two little girls LOVE being with their grandparents....they always have such a good time. Party time with no parents...holla!
I am sad to say that I don't have one single picture of the the girls and their grandparents while they were home alone sans the parental figures. Mamo only took pictures on her iphone and put them on facebook or emailed them to us. So the only pictures I have to commemorate this time in the girls lives are the pictures we took while we were in Mexico which were taken with our little point and shoot camera. Hopefully when the girls are older and they read this in the blog book, they will have memories of their time with Mamo and Papo tucked away and this will spark those fond memories.
Mamo and Papo flew in on Tuesday evening and Mommy and Daddy left early Wednesday morning bound for Cancun. We actually stayed at the Rosewood Mayakoba Resort which is about 40 minutes from Cancun and 15 minutes from Playa del Carmen.
It was absolutely beautiful and we had such a great time! We arrived at the hotel and got checked in then had lunch at the hotel restaurant ON THE BEACH! It was the perfect way to start the vacay!
My handsome and fantastic hubs...I love this guy so much! Thank you HP for this trip!!
The view from the restaurant and the view from our back patio door.
These were our two favorite parts of our room: The private roof top sun deck and the outdoor shower!
Our own private plunge pool on the patio and the view of our room from the dock. Yes, they deliver you to your room via a boat. The boat takes you on a tour of the resort before stopping at your room.
On Thursday night, we had a beautiful opening dinner set up on the beach. There was no detail left out.
This picture was taken on Sunday at breakfast before Daddy went to play golf and Mommy had a fabulous massage at the spa!
While we had a fantastic time on our trip, we missed our girls tremendously. The best part of our days were when we called home to talk to them hear how their day was.
Mamo and Papo and the girls had a total blast! Mamo and Papo took both of the girls to school, Landry to My Gym, Ashton to dance, Ashton to her softball game, Papo took Landry to a birthday party, Mamo took Ashton to see Rio in 3D, Landry to swimming lessons, they had a picnic at the park and had movie night. Landry managed to convince them that she needed to go out for lunch everyday starting with Subway after My Gym followed by "Taco Bleno for queso" on Thursday after school. They had fun after school treats like icees from Quik Trip. Ashton made a very cute Power Point all about Mexico and printed it out for us to see when we got home. Landry discovered the"games" on Papo's laptop and Papo LOVED having a much needed nap everyday when Landry took hers.
We all had a fantastic time and we were all so glad for Mommy and Daddy to arrive home.
