girls just wanna have fun...

This was an unusual week for us...Daddy was gone from Monday to Wednesday then left again on Friday.  The first trip was for work and the second trip was a Boys Weekend Trip down to "float the river" with his buddies. The girls do.not.like when Daddy is gone and they particularly didn't like when he was gone for basically a whole week...I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't a walk in the park for me either.

So Mommy decided to try and take their minds off the fact that Daddy was gone by planning some fun "new" things as part of our Girls Weekend. (My plans didn't work out like I had hoped, but at least we tried and I am pretty sure Daddy won't be doing this much in one week anymore especially when Landry was sick when he got home from the first trip!)

Ashton had her 8 year check up on Friday afternoon so after we took care of that, then we put the first fun activity into action.  We went to the new Shops at Fairview for dinner and some splashing fun. Since we had never been before and it was HOT, I thought this would be a great time to check it out.

We started with dinner at the Purple Cow which is a soda fountain diner type place.   While we waited for our food, I decided to take a few pics of the girls and these are my faves...

After the girls gobbled up their dinner, we had to have some famous dessert...I mean that is what The Purple Cow is known for after all!

ARB decided to enjoy some purple ice cream....

...while Mommy and LP shared a good old fashioned chocolate milkshake.
(I was pretty impressed with Ashton's photog skills since she took this picture)

After our bellies were full, we literally walked outside and found a spot to put our stuff so the girls could splash to their hearts' content in the fountains and Mommy could follow them around and take pictures to my heart's content.

Two year old push ups anyone?! She is SO her mommy's child...you can see that she picked up some skills while watching Mommy in Stroller Fit for the first year and a half of her life!

At 7:00 they had a show for us to watch...the fountains were set to "dance" to music which was pretty cool. So after the girls played for a bit we sat and enjoyed the show followed by a little more play time before we called it a night.

Day 1 was a success...and that was pretty much the ONLY day that was a success!

Yesterday, since I was trying to find some new things to do that weren't outside, I thought we would try a movie. I decided we would give the dollar theater a shot...just in case we had to leave, I wouldn't have spent $20 on tickets.  That was a good idea in theory.

I tried to get a picture of the girls together since this was Landry's first time to go to a movie. This should have been a clue as to how the afternoon would go since she absolutely would not turn around and look at me! Not even a slight head turn to give me a dirty look.  Nada.

After the non-picture, and after we got snacks we headed into the theater to see How To Train Your Dragon.  I warned Ashton ahead of time that we probably wouldn't make it through the whole movie and if that was the case, I would bring her back without Landry another time.

Landry did awesome....through the previews and the beginning of the movie because she was eating her snacks.  And when her snacks were done--so was she! I tried to occupy her with some flash cards in my purse and then she started to fuss because she swore she needed me to change her diaper. Ashton was NOT happy that we had to go to the bathroom and I wasn't about to leave her in the theater by herself! To the bathroom we went...to find a bone dry diaper!  Ashton was beyond annoyed at this point and so was I. So we headed back into the theater this time staying in the back...that lasted exactly 2.5 seconds. I was done. Landry was done. Ashton was NOT done.

We left the theater after a grand total of 20 minutes (which might be rounding up)....it was the BIGGEST debockle EV-ER!  We got in the car and I explained to Ashton that I would bring her back on another day without Landry, but that didn't seem to help. She was frustrated and mad and just plain not happy. Landry....well she is asking "why we not having movie night...where we going now?"

Major Debockle. That might have been my worst plan ever and I seriously mean ever! I was able to save the day by letting Ashton choose a movie from Blockbuster so she could at least have movie night at home. That helped...a little.

Hold on, it gets better....seriously it does!

I put Landry to bed and she proceeded to FREAK OUT because she wanted Daddy.  When I say freak out, I mean totally freaked out. Like screaming bloody murder, jumping up and down in her crib so high that her feet were about even with the top of the rail..to the point I thought she might just jump herself out of the crib. She would not lay down. So after about 45 minutes of this (all while Ashton is trying to watch her movie) we called Daddy. Daddy talked to her and told her to go to sleep.  She finally did after a little more fit throwing. Oh and  I can't even count the number of fits our precious two year old threw this weekend...because that is the stage we are in and she hasn't figured out that fits don't get her what she wants, so that just makes her even more mad! NOT.FUN.AT.ALL!

Finally...Saturday which wasn't a success was over and Daddy will be home soon!

This morning I took the girls to Dunkin Donuts to pick out donuts for breakfast. This is a real treat since we don't do donuts often and to Ashton, the donuts totally made up for yesterday!

Let's just say that we are all so glad Daddy is home and that he won't be gone again for a while. I had the greatest of intentions, but that is life with a two year old...good thing this phase of hers won't last forever!
