Super Water Baby...

Landry has been in swimming lessons since January and she is progressing quite nicely. Back in June when this summer session  started, she was put in the "Super Water Babies" class. She is doing much better than I had originally thought.  It has really helped that even though she has different kids in her class each session, she is with the same teacher in the same location.

In the Super Water Baby classes she is all by herself....no Mommy in the water with her. I was nervous at first because I thought how in the world will this work. She is NOT going to sit on the edge all by herself like she is supposed to.

Well, I was totally wrong. She did just fine. She did "fall" in during the very first class totally by accident. She was sitting on the edge, on her turtle splishing and splashing, singing and clapping happy as can be. She leaned forward to see what her little friend was doing and plop..she fell right in!  Good thing Miss Sara was right there and she knew to grab the wall...she totally surprised herself because she knew Miss Sara told her she couldn't get in the water unless it was her turn. Miss Vanessa, the deck manager, came and sat behind her and that was that.

Poor Ashton won't even watch the lessons...she is so afraid one of the kids is going to fall in and drown especially Landry. The very first class she came to, she sat next to me very nervous and concerned and about to panic at any second. I assured her that no one has ever drown(ed?) at swimming lessons and that Landry knows how to hold her breath and Miss Sara is right there to help her out if necessary. Plus one of the skills Emler focuses on (since Day 1) is how to grab the wall and climb out. They actually practice falling in and getting to the wall in every single class.

Now Landry is a rock star at staying on her turtle and controlling her body...she knows that if she leans over too far, she will fall in and she knows that is a "NO NO".

Today was the first time I  brought my camera and took pictures of her in this class. I am going to apologize up front for the poor quality of the pictures....I decided to take them through the window rather than going on deck. I didn't want to be a major distraction, so there is a glare on almost every picture. But, this Super Water Baby class is documented and that is what matters!

Here is our Super Water Baby getting ready to do her thang in swimming lessons!

Swimming from the wall with Miss Sara for 6 seconds!

The big kids at the other end of the pool wear goggles (so does Big Sisser) and Landry found these next to her while she was waiting her turn. She convinced Miss Sara to put them on for her.

She and Miss Sara splashed her friends waiting their turn on the turtle and now she is ready to swim back to the wall.

There she goes!

Now it is "Motor Boat" time where she can practice her "kickers".  They also like to bump into each other. This was another area where I wasn't exactly sure how it would work out. You see, when she was doing this in the Mommy and Me class, when she had had enough and was "done", she would just lift her arms up and become a limp noodle.  But, once again she surprised me and never tried to get out of her Motor Boat.

Her turn to spin out of the water...she loves this part and that might be why she stays in her boat!

Such a happy girl (I love that sweet smile)...sometimes she kicks herself over to the steps and tries to grab onto the rail, but somehow Miss Sara is always one step ahead of her.

Today she kicked herself to the wall and found a toy to play with and helped herself!

This is another one of her favorite things to do...climb up and....

J-U-M-P!

She always ends the class by showing me something she has been working on and the grand finale is going down the BIG slide. One of these days I will get a picture because it is so funny to see her little bitty self on the giant green slide!

We really are so glad she is taking swimming lessons-it is money well spent that is for sure. Miss Independent thinks she can do anything, including swimming on her own.  She might just be in lessons until she is 20!
