Today was a very historic day in our country and I want our girls to know what happened since they probably won’t remember. Today was election day and no matter how the votes turn out, history will be made.
It is very important to use your right to vote, so many people fought long and hard for that right and we are so lucky to live in a country where our vote counts. We are so lucky to be Americans! We can’t wait for the day that our girls are able to exercise their right to vote and we are excited to see what our great country will be like at that time.
Daddy and I took advantage of early voting and voted together…we have done this since we have been married and I hope it is something we continue to do. Ashton was able to vote at her school’s election using the computer and she got her stickers that say “I voted”. Landry went with Daddy and me when we went to vote…Ashton was with us when we voted in the last election.
Ashton was so “in” to the election. They have been learning about the election process at school and she has been seeing and hearing about the candidates on tv and on the radio. She has been back and forth on who she wanted to win. In fact, tonight, she was very interested in watching the updates and coverage on the news. When I put her to bed, she said, “Mommy make sure you tell me who wins when I wake up”.
Barack Obama was elected the 44th president of the United States of America. He is the FIRST African-American person to get elected. If John McCain would have won, his vice president, Sarah Palin, would have been the FIRST woman to be in office. How awesome is that?! One of the things that really caught my attention was when President Elect Obama was giving his speech and he mentioned the 106 year old African-American woman from Atlanta who voted in this election. He was talking about all the things she has experienced in her life and to be a part of this changing moment in our history was just awesome!
We are so proud of our country and being that Bobby and I are children of retired Air Force Veterans, we really appreciate all that our country is and what it stands for. We love that we get the goose bumps every time we hear our National Anthem. We LOVE this country and we are so proud to be AMERICANS! We hope our girls will feel the same way one day!
