Mashed Bananas, Mashed Bananas...

Over the last couple of days, we have let Landry try some “finger food”. She has been showing signs of readiness, but I was too scared to give her anything since she doesn’t have any teeth yet. I finally gave in and she loves it!

The first thing we gave her was mashed bananas and teeny-tiny pieces of very soft avocado. She was so excited to have something in her mouth that she couldn’t get enough. She made a few funny faces because the texture was different than what she was used to…it didn’t take long for her to make the adjustment. It was so cute!

When we first put the banana on her tray, she touched it and smashed her hand in it and “raked” it to the edge of her tray. She didn’t waste any time really investigating…she wanted to put it directly into her mouth just like everything else she gets her hands on! The poor girl couldn’t get it off the tray since it was sticky so we had to help her out just a bit. We just fed her the avocado off our fingers and she liked it. We have been giving avacado to her as a vegetable only it is pureed…she didn’t seem to mind the difference.

I have also been struggling with what else to give her. She doesn’t have any teeth yet so Cheerios were out because they don’t dissolve quickly or easy enough yet. The Gerber Puffs dissolve super easy, but I felt like they were still too big for her. So I went with the Gerber Wheels. My thinking was, she would just suck on it and not put the whole thing in her mouth. WRONG!!! Bobby had to fish it out because she did stick the whole thing in (in 2 seconds flat) there even though it barely fit. On top of that, when those things get wet, they get sticky and smooshy, and start to dissolve…what a mess. So now we just break it into several tiny pieces. She picks them up (as long as they are dry) and eats them like a champ. She does a good job of making it to her mouth…when she misses, she gets frustrated and then it's Daddy to the rescue. Daddy is in charge of Landry during supper since she sits next to him, so as he eats, he monitors her too! Needless to say, she is entertained while we eat and she is getting some good practicing with her pinching skills.

It is so cute to watch her figure this out and she thinks she is hot stuff. We will slowly continue adding new “finger foods” for her to eat. This is just another thing to check off the list of things done and accomplished for this little punkin!
