She got ready in record time and we had plenty of time to take the annual first day of school pictures. At first we thought Bobby wasn’t going to be able to go with us since he has an 8:00 conference call every Monday morning; but, Ashton’s teacher sent us an email saying she was going to open her room at 7:30. Yay…Daddy went and was the photographer. It would have been tricky for me to do it all with Lan-Lan P!
When we arrived, on Ashton’s desk was a nametag, a note from us ( we had written it on a notecard her teacher gave us at Meet the Teacher and she had no idea), and a bag full of first grade goodies. She quickly put on her nametag, put the papers in the basket on the teacher’s desk, put her books in her browsing box and read her note from us. Then Mrs. Allen told them they could choose whichever activity they wanted to work on out of their goody bags. We took some pictures, gave hugs and kisses and we left her there. Sounds easy. She was so ready…didn’t even bat an eyelash when we left. She was ready to start her day as a first grader! I was excited for her but a little sad only because I feel like she is growing up way too fast…much faster than I would like! She tells us all the time that is what she is supposed to do.
Poor Landry would look for Ashton in every room we went into today. It will take some getting used to for all of us….it is hard having her gone ALL DAY LONG! I couldn’t wait for 3:00 to pick her up and hear how her day went.
She absolutely loved it! She said her class is much better this year, Mrs. Allen is funny (and she told us all about Mrs. Allen’s husband and dogs) and she sang a new song for us. She said they did “some” kindergarten stuff and didn’t learn many new things today. PE was the same…they did the same things as Kindergarten. The highlight for today was they didn’t have assigned seats in the lunch room!
So it is official…we have a first grader!!! My.oh.my how time flies!
