The 4th of July...

We had a wonderful day celebrating America’s birthday. Ashton thought is was neat that her birthday is so close to America’s. In fact, I went into labor on the 4th of July, but she wasn’t born until the 6th!

This year was a little different than our norm…we usually host the 4th of July party at our house because we are in a great location to see the fireworks. This year, we decided not to host because Landry goes to bed around 8:00 (if she has napped) and we knew it would be virtually impossible and really not fair to keep everyone quiet so she can sleep. SO…our friends (and neighbors) Nathan and Jill hosted it at their house. We had a great time. Their backyard is a perfect party backyard. They had a kiddie pool for the kids to play in, the boys played washers, and the mommas sat and chatted. We grilled out and had yummy food. I took Landry home and put her to bed around 8:00. Everyone was super sweet and walked down to our house to watch the fireworks so I wouldn’t miss out. We had great seats…we walked across the street and watched the fireworks! Frisco does an awesome job each year. It was about 15 minutes plus a big finale.

The best part of the firework show was….are you ready….Ashton DID NOT, I repeat DID NOT cover her ears, cry, or freak out! We are so proud of that girl!!!! I knew this day would finally come….I just didn’t realize it would take nearly 6 years!

For those of you who don’t know Ashton’s history I will give you a quick rundown. She has always been a noise sensitive kid. Even as a baby she would cry at sneezes, coughs, opening of soda cans, etc. When it came to noises that were loud….she would freak out and create quite the scene. Once she was old enough to understand that noises don’t hurt you, it really frustrated us that she wouldn’t give herself a chance to enjoy anything. In years past, we would make her sit with us in someone’s lap and watch the fireworks just so she would see that it was fine. We would point out that all her friend we were with who were her age weren’t bothered. We finally decided that if we ignored it and didn’t make a big deal she would quit….that didn’t work either. It was exhausting and such a whippin’.

But now….we don’t have to worry about it. She sat in her Daddy’s lap and watched the fireworks all while commenting on how pretty they were and saying “Happy Birthday America”! She did ask a million and one questions (this is a nervous thing she does) but I don’t mind…this was a HUGE milestone for her!

Here are some pictures of our girls...

We hope everyone had a wonderful and safe 4th of July weekend!
