Yes…that’s right…Ashton broke her wrist again! Two years ago she fractured her left wrist after her foot slipped and she fell off the 3rd step of a ladder on a wooden play set. She had a hot pink full arm cast for 4 weeks, then a hot pink short arm cast for another 4 weeks…no fun with a 3 year old!
This post contains a lot of detail since our blog will be bound into a book~but there are pictures.
Yesterday, as I am on my way to the gym I hear the voice mail alert on my phone and think it is weird that my phone didn’t ring. So I checked the message and found out it was from the school nurse. So I immediately called her back 3 times but she was on the phone (talking to Bobby who is on his way to Houston for work). He sends me a text message to call him. He proceeds to tell me that the nurse has called him and told him that Ashton almost fainted! Apparently she ran over to the teachers at recess… about ran into one, her face turned ghost white and she leaned/fell into another teacher. Mrs. Weeks picked her up and carried her inside, the nurse met them halfway and carried her the rest of the way to the clinic. They got inside and Ashton was completely fine. She never blacked out, was talking and totally coherent. The nurse checkeds her vitals and all were good so she monitored her for a while then had her go to lunch. The nurse checked on her again and she was fine. The nurse told me she didn’t think I needed to come get her (I reallllly wanted to!), so I didn’t. I emailed her teacher for a report and she said Ashton was fine. When I picked her up, her teacher told me her arm was hurting and a little puffy but they had had ice on it.
So after talking to Ashton, I found out she was swinging on a bar (kind of like a pull up bar) and a boy went under her, she dropped and landed on top of him, her wrist on his shoe. I kept an eye on her for the rest of the night…she did not want me to call or take her to the doctor so she tried her best not to show that it was hurting her.
I decided to wait and see how it was this morning before calling the doctor. I was having flashbacks to when this happened 2 years ago. She was doing the same things and it swelled just a little, she could move it but it hurt and she could wiggle her fingers but couldn’t put any weight on it. She wouldn’t use it at all.
I took her in, had an x-ray and found she has a small fracture on her wrist. The doctor put her in a short arm cast for 2 reasons: to heal the fracture quicker and to keep her from doing further damage should she fall again. So she has to wear her pink cast for 4 weeks.
She did AWESOME…she went and had the x-ray done by herself while I stayed in the exam room with Landry and filled out paper work. She said…I am a pro, I have done this before and I am older now. Last time she freaked out in a major way for the whole process. I was so proud of her! She chatted with the nurse and doctor the entire time they were putting her cast on.
As we were walking to the car it hit her… what exactly the cast meant and she was very upset. No water activity at field day tomorrow, no more swimming lessons (she has 3 left), no swimming at all, and she has to wear the cast to her Uncle Todd’s graduation. She was sad and mad and hysterical. She is also going to have her cast on for her dance recital but at least the cast matches the costume!
I felt so bad for her as we were driving home and she was crying…I also had Landry crying because it was time for her to eat. Once we got home, she had a snack, snuggled with me while I fed Landry and we watched “Jon & Kate plus 8” and “Clifford the Big Red Dog”. By that time her Daddy was home which made her very happy!
Under no circumstances did she want her cast on the blog…I was able to convince her to take a picture of her outfit for college week. She tried to hide her cast then I got some with the cast…she wasn’t happy and told me not to put it on the blog. She was faking the smiles for me…that’s my girl…DRAMA QUEEN and I love her to pieces!

Sweet girl....I really can't believe that she broke her other arm!!! We've already knocked on wood and told Macy that this DOES NOT mean that she needs to break her other leg in a week (like last time)!!! Hopefully 4 weeks will go by a lot faster than last time! Give her a big squeeze from us!!!
Poor Ashton! Nathan told me about this last night so I knew if I checked your blog today I'd be able to read about it :) It sounds like Ashton's being a trooper though.
Poor little doodlebug!!! Ashton, I always wanted a cast or glasses or braces when I was little. Aunt Becky got the braces and glasses and Aunt Sara got the cast. All I got was dandruff!!
Heal soon.
Bless her little heart :) I love how she went to get x-rays by herself! Little Miss Independent!
