Yesterday came and went in a flash so were hoping today would go a tad bit slower since it was our last day of vacay. First thing on our agenda was to go visit Great-Grandmom Bryce.
While everyone was getting ready, the kiddos hung out with Mamo at the end of the boat ramp and fed the fish and ducks. I know that Mamo was a pretty happy camper to have all four of her grand kids by her side. I also know that those four kiddos were loving hanging out with their Mamo!
When we arrived at Great-Grandmom's house, we were greeted by Aunt Kathi and Uncle Jack who brought lunch. She makes the best queso and she also makes a super spicy version which all the boys fight over. We visited and ate and visited some more til our bellies were full.
After a while, and once the rain stopped, the kids were itching to go outside and play. In all the years we have been coming to visit Great-Grandmom, our girls have NEVER been outside to play in her ginormous backyard. Apparently Cameron and Peyton go every time they come. We've heard stories of when Daddy and Aunt Marie were little and used to play out there. We've also heard stories of Peyton playing out there and climbing a big giant tree and not being able to get down {the thought scares the pants off of me...can you imagine Landry out there climbing trees....good golly!}.
Uncle Todd decided he would take the kids to catch crawfish in the creek behind Great-Grandmom's house. Landry in a creek scares me, so I was headed out there to join the fun when my fabulous hubs stepped in and said he would go with them. I of course, came along to take pictures. This was another first for the girls and I didn't want to miss it. So I grabbed my camera and in between the spots of sprinkling rain, I took pictures. I spent most of the time watching and hiding my camera in my shirt so it wouldn't get wet.
This was as they were entering the creek...I was standing on the bridge looking down at them.
Not two seconds after they all got in, Uncle Todd and Peyton spotted a crawfish! Uncle Todd caught it to show the kids how it's done. I seriously couldn't believe Ashton was involved in the crawfish hunting...this is SO NOT her thing at all! I was impressed and proud of her for trying something out of her comfort zone!
A few minutes after being in the water (which was cold), we realized Landry's legs weren't quite long enough to keep her pants dry. BB did his best to roll 'em up for her.
Landry was DYING to catch a crawfish...so Uncle Todd being the fabulous uncle he is, caught one for her and put it in her cup. You could see the wheels turning in her little mind. She really wanted to pick it up and touch it, but there was no way her Daddy was letting go of her hand and she had to hold the cup with her other hand. She was trying to figure out a way to grab it, but with no luck!
Since Bobby was "escorting" Landry and trying to keep her clumsy self from falling and getting all wet, he eventually had to roll up his shorts. Also, notice how close Ashton is to Uncle Todd and the crawfish he was trying to catch. Again, I was TOTALLY shocked but then again this she did hold a crawfish a few months ago at the Gees' crawfish boil!
These three were done and ready to get back on stable, not rocky ground so they called it quits while the big girls and Uncle Todd kept at it for a bit longer!
This tree swing has been around since Daddy was a little boy...I love that I was able to get this picture. I only wish I could have snapped one of Ashton on that swing with her Daddy. Hopefully I'll get it next year!
After all the fun playing outside, we came in to visit a little more and take all the annual pictures before we left. It was nice to add the Fewells to the mix this year!
Great-Grandmom, Aunt Marie, Peyton (12), Uncle Jeff, Cameron (8)
Great-Grandmom, Daddy, Ashton (10), Landry (4.5), and Mommy
Great-Grandmom with four of her great-grand kids...I think she has close to 20 great-grand kids!
Great-Grandmom with her grand kiddos...Daddy is the oldest boy of eleven grand kids!
Aunt Kathi with a few of her great nieces and nephews
After we ended our visit with Great-Grandmom, Aunt Kathi and Uncle Jack we headed back to Mamo-the-Great's house. We were hoping to have a little fun out on the lake before we headed back to Huntsville.
The kids got changed into their swimsuits and all slathered in sunscreen...all this as a storm started to blow in. We waited to see if it was going to pass, but the radar showed that it was there to stay. It was a major bummer and they were so disappointed. After the tears were all dried, we changed them back into their clothes and Mamo busted out a craft she brought for them. They each got to paint a ceramic picture frame. Sadly, the rain and storms were still hanging around so we decided that playing on the lake just wasn't meant to be for today.
We loaded up the cars and headed back to H-town, but not before a few pictures with Mamo-the-Great!
Everyone was sad to leave, but this silly picture brought out a few smiles.
Even though the weather didn't cooperate, we still had a great time visiting with all of the family! We look forward to seeing everyone in December. We had a fabulous time on our vacay, but at the same time are ready to sleep in our own beds.
Mamo and Papo were gracious hosts for us and we look forward to our next visit!
We spent the rest of the evening hanging out and playing cards. Then just like that, our Annual Bama Vacay of 2012 was over...nothing left but heading home to Texas!
