Father's Day 2012

Father's Day is one my favorite holidays of the year and I think it is pretty safe to say that it ranks at the top for the girls too. They get so excited about Father's Day--and I am always so impressed with how well they keep the special surprises a secret from Daddy!

This special day started out in our traditional way...we let Daddy sleep in while we made him the breakfast of his choice. While I was busy making waffles and bacon, the girls were busy making their "Candy Card" for  Daddy.

The "Candy Card" was a big deal this year.  So as soon as the girls woke up, we rushed off to CVS to gather some candy for the card. The girls were so excited  that I let them go to the store in their jammies! Once we were there, I let them pick out whatever candy they wanted for Daddy. It was so cute listening to them trying to pick out Daddy's faves. At one point, we thought it might be impossible because Daddy LOVES every kind of candy. After a while, the decisions were made, the candy was purchased, and we were on our way back home to get to the card making.

We had seen several examples of people using the names of various kinds of candy incorporated to cards for different occasions. I pinned the idea on Pinterest and showed it to Ashton and that was how the "Candy Card" came about. I was so impressed with Ashton's creativity with the card. Landry's job was to be the "candy hander" and "tape giver". That lasted all of about 3 minutes before she became my helper with breakfast and Ashton worked on the card solo.

Here is the finished product before Daddy saw it...
{There a few tiny mistakes and a the M&Ms accidentally got mixed up. We wanted to get him Reeses Pieces but Landry was adimant about the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. But all in all it turned out super cute for the work of a 9 year old and a 4.5 year old}

Here is what it says:
"We wanted this Father's Day to be a HOT TAMALE of a time!
So we made you this NERDSY that we hope makes you SNICKER.
Inside your CANDY SHELL {Peanut M&Ms} you're awfully sweet!
You're anything but a PLAIN {M&Ms} old Dad to us!
You are our LIFESAVER
You are an important PIECE {Reese's Pieces} in our family.
You are {JUNIOR} MINT to be our Daddy!
We love you more than you know!
Love your SWEET TARTS...Ashton & Landry"

Once they finished with their masterpiece, they very carefully placed it in Daddy's spot at the table and darted back to our bedroom to wake him up {although he was already awake and watching Sportcenter when they peeked through the door}.

They made him close his eyes and escorted him to the kitchen table...

The girls were so giddy and excited...

S-U-R-P-R-I-S-E!!!!!

He was super excited and very impressed. To say that he loved it was a total understatement. That *might* have been the best card he has ever received!

The girls decided that since they didn't have time to wrap his presents before we woke him up {the card took longer than they thought} they would just present him with his gifts at various times of the day. I think he liked that we changed it up a bit!

The first gift of the day was shortly after breakfast...it was the "DAD" Tervis Tumbler cup. We walked into Bed, Bath, & Beyond and when Landry spotted that cup, she decided he just HAD to have it!

For lunch we headed to the pool for a little picnic and swimming with our neighbors.

After we got home from the pool, it was time for present number two before nap time. Daddy loves to lay on the couch with his pillow to chillax and watch golf. The girls surprised him with a new down pillow for his second gift. His old one needed to be replaced, and he was so happy to have a new comfy one! The girls were so pumped with their plan of giving it to him while he watched golf!

After dinner, the girls presented him with his last and final gift of the day....cuff links and a shirt to match.

They chose the grey and pink striped shirt to go with the pink {because he's a Girl Daddy} cufflinks, but luckily I realized the shirt they chose was not a French Cuff shirt so the cuff links wouldn't work. So on Saturday (after checking Daddy's shirt size in his closet and I realized we got him the wrong size) when I went to exchange his shirt, I picked up a French Cuff shirt to go with his cuff links.  He loves that the girls always give him cuff links on Father's Day and he couldn't wait to proudly wear his shiny new pink cuff links to work!

I am pretty sure Daddy had a fabulous Father's Day...I know for sure that the girls and I loved spoiling him and we loved how the day went. We are so lucky to have this fabulous guy in our lives. The girls and I could not have asked for a better Daddy. I knew when I married him that he would one day make the perfect father for our children, but he has exceeded my expectations. He amazes me everyday with the kind of Dad he is to our girls!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY B-SQUARED! YOUR GIRLS LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU KNOW!!

**I totally dropped the ball this year and FORGOT to take a picture of the girls for Bobby's Father's Day Photo Album!!! I felt like I was forgetting something but didn't realize it until BB pointed it out. I promise I will get that picture taken and added to this post!
