Here was our plan: Softball camp began on Wednesday, so Landry and I drove her down to Waco on Tuesday. We got her settled at camp on Wednesday morning then my little sidekick and I headed back home for the rest of the week while Ashton stayed with Grammy and Grampy. Grammy and Ninny drove her back up to our house on Friday.
The day before we left, Ashton did a little "prep" work for her Baylor Camp...
She painted her fingernails GREEN & GOLD!
{The trend these days is to have one finger a different color--it was a perfect way to bring in both colors}
Our drive down to Waco was a bit of an interesting one. The weather was a little sketchy...the emeregency alert buzzer from the NWS blared across the radio and sent the girls into an all out panic. Daddy was checking the radar and keeping us updated with what was going on til the storm passed. We stopped at a rest area to let the thunderstorm and massive rain pass over before we continued on our way.
One good thing did come our way while we were heading to Waco....Daddy called us with some very exciting news! The coach of the select team ARB tried out for called. He wanted to talk to Ashton, but since she was out of town, he passed along the results of the tryouts to Daddy. Daddy called us, we put the phone on speaker and listened on the edge of our seats for the verdict. I am pretty sure the cars passing by us could hear us scream with excitement when Daddy said that she is now a member of the Texas Twist Select Softball Team!! Ashton was totally giddy and so excited! As soon as we got to Waco, she could not wait to blurt out her good news to Grammy and Grampy!
Once we arrived in Waco, we met the rest of the family for dinner at the girls' fave Waco Pizza Joint--Mazzio's. We had a yummy dinner and enjoyed visiting with everyone.
Bright and early on Wednesday morning, we took Ashton to camp...
After she was all signed in, they gave her her t-shirt to wear and take a picture in...
...A picture with Baylor's Head Softball Coach Glenn Moore!! He was so great with the campers, he talked to them as they came up for their picture and told them he was glad they were there.
Grammy & Ashton
During the camp intro, LLP plopped down on the turf and kept herself occupied with the "dirt"
They walked onto the field--the real field that the Baylor players play on which was way cool for Ashton!
After we watched for a few minutes, and when Landry was "done" she and I headed for home and Grammy went to work. Ashton spent all day at camp and Grammy came to pick her up when camp was over. They went to dinner at Pei Wei and Academy Sports. Grammy said Ashton worked hard at camp was exhausted!
At the end of the second day, they had a scrimmage. Ninny and Grampy came out to watch Ashton which made her day. She had such a fantastic time at this camp and learned so much! She can't wait to go back next summer! {And when she is 13, she be old enough to attend the sleepover softball camp!}
We are so glad that she had the opportunity to attend this camp and as a bonus, she got a little one-on-one time with Grammy & Grampy. We sure did miss her while she was gone!
