Why yes....you did read that title correctly! Our "accident prone" youngest daughter hurt her ankle again. The same ankle, in the same spot!
Here are the details of how the re-injury occurred....
I was getting ready to put her down for her nap on Thursday afternoon when we realized her blankie was downstairs. I headed down to get it and I sent her to go potty. I didn't make it half way down the stairs before I heard her scream and cry...the scared/hurt cry! I darted back upstairs and knew immediately she had hurt herself. At first, I wasn't sure what was hurt until she said she couldn't stand up and that her ankle hurt. {She was freaking out thinking I was going to call the ambulance-bless her heart}.
After talking to her and trying to figure out exactly what happened, it was once again nothing exciting. As she was walking down the one step to her room, her foot slid off the step and she rolled her ankle just right.
When I looked at her ankle, it was not pretty looking. I tried to call Bobby to see if I should take her in....I tend to over react at times so it is always good for me to run it by the hubs. I sent him a picture and he agreed that we needed to go see Dr. McNutt. I couldn't call because Landry was hysterical and completely freaking out. So BB set up the appointment and Landry and I headed out.
These are the pics I took of her ankle just after it happened....pretty, huh?!
Dr. McNutt's office was fantastic! They x-rayed her ankle and saw that it wasn't broken, that she just re-injured the previous injury in the spot around her growth plate. He didn't want to put her in another cast so they decided a boot was the best option. They were out of the boot so their medical supply company delivered one the next day. We had to carry her around until the boot arrived....let me just tell you that she is heavier than she looks!
I am pretty sure Dr. McNutt thinks I am crazy. I had asked him at the last ankle injury if I needed to be concerned and he said no. I asked again this trip and wanted to know what we needed to check...her balance, her bones, ligaments because I just knew there was something wrong with her for her to keep getting hurt. He told me that some kids just fall more than others and she just happens to falling in awkward ways and that she is just one of those kids. Not exactly what I wanted to hear....but at the same time I was glad he wasn't concerned.
To add to the craziness, the girls and I had planned on making a quick overnight trip to Waco to visit my Aunt and Uncle who were in town. We decided to go anyway and I am glad we did. There were plenty of people to take turns carrying her around.
We got home the next day where Daddy and her boot were waiting for us....they didn't have the size she needed, so they brought us the next closest thing they had which was ginormous on her bitty body!
Our littlest "accident prone" girl will be sporting this nice giant boot for the next two weeks. She was a trooper and all I can say is thank goodness it comes off for bathtime and bedtime!
I am not sure what we are going to do with this girl...I do know that she has turned me into a "Nervous Nellie". Let's hope after this little stint, we are done with injuries and visits to the orthopedic doctor!
