Alabama Trip 2011: Day One

...Day One...

We changed our departure plans just a bit this trip. Partly because Landry has gotten car sick the last two times and partly because Daddy's work kind of got in the way.  We usually leave on Thursday night and drive all night so we gain an extra day...we decided to leave early on Friday morning instead and it worked out perfectly!

Dramamine is our new best friend on trips that last longer than two hours in the car.  I had been looking all week before we left for the chewable Dramamine with no luck (we accidentally experimented with the non-chewable kind once before and it didn't go so well).  I knew we absolutely could not start our trip without it....I knew if we did, it would make trip number three of Landry getting sick and that was NOT what we wanted.

We pulled out of our driveway at 5:00 am which was exactly how we planned it. We had to stop at a couple of places along the way until we found some chewable Dramamine for Lan-Lan P. Once we found it, we were good to go and all was smooth sailing the rest of the way.

We brushed the girls' teeth and loaded them into the car still in their jammies and once we got in the car, they went back to sleep until about 7:30. Daddy discovered how much he loved the ESPN Radio App on his phone...he listened to Mike & Mike with his earbuds while us girls slept. When the girls woke up, they had powdered donuts and OJ in the car. The girls had chosen this as their "in the car breakfast" and were pretty excited since those donuts are a rare treat!

While we were driving through Arkansas, we saw this wet stuff falling from the sky and hitting the windshield. We haven't seen rain in Texas in months, so this was an unexpected treat. {The girls thought I was NUTS to take a picture of the rain}
This bridge is something the girls look forward to on our drive. It lets us know we are getting closer to Mamo's and Papo's house!

We made excellent time on this trip...it was one of the BEST car trips we have ever had. The girls watched movies, took turns listening to their ipod, they read books, colored and just had fun. We only stopped twice...it is amazing what happens when you don't have a newly potty trained kiddo to stop for! We pulled in to their driveway at 3:45....Uncle Todd greeted us and entertained us while we waited for Mamo and Papo to get home from work.

Day One was a success!
