Our Very Own "Watch D.O.G.S"

There is a new program that is hitting many schools this year and Ashton's school is lucky enough to have it implemented in hers.  It is called Watch D.O.G.S. Carroll calls on the dads to get more involved with their child's school. We have lots of moms, but for some reason the kids LOVE to see dads on campus. Carroll's goal is to have one father/grandfather/uncle (or any father figure) volunteering everyday at the school.

Here is a bit of  background info on the program:  Watch D.O.G.S (Dads Of Great Students) focuses on improving education in schools by using the positive influences of fathers and father figures in two ways. (1) to provide a positive and active role model for students during their school day (2) to provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security.  As an added bonus, Watch DOGS also gives the dads a glimpse of their student's every day world and learn about the increasingly complex challenges and decisions students face and a result hopefully gives them a better understanding of how they can connect with their student better. The dads also get to see how much of a positive impact they can be.

Well back in the fall when they had the "kick-off" Bobby signed up for his day to be on campus. It nearly killed Ashton that she had to wait until April...but today FINALLY came and this girl was so beyond excited. She could barely go to sleep last night and wanted to wake up early just so she could have her Daddy at her school all day long!

I packed them both a lunch and snack and they put on their Watch D.O.G.S. shirts and were ready for the day!

(I think I may have mentioned a time or two before that I really dislike taking pictures in the morning when the lighting is horrible!)

I love these two and I think Bobby is a spectacular Daddy and these two girls sure are lucky to have him!

Lan-Lan wanted to be in the picture, only she wanted to do a silly face picture and couldn't wait for me to get  regular one first!

Bobby's schedule for the day

When they got home Bobby was whipped! He said he had no idea he would be so tired! I loved hearing the rundown of his day and reading his schedule...yes they had  a schedule for him to follow! He said "this was no joke...I am tired after all that!" I quickly welcomed him to my old world of teaching...I told him to imagine that all day everyday. He already had a great appreciation for teachers but after today that appreciation is even greater!

They began the day  in the carpool  line. Daddy helped kids out of their cars while ARB opened the door to the building (she couldn't be on the curb since she hasn't been trained yet) then Ashton and her Daddy were introduced to the school during the morning announcements during FML so the kids would know who he was when they saw  him around the building. They had their picture taken for the Wall of Fame, they had lunch together, played at recess together, helped in her classroom and in the library, he even had a scheduled coffee break with the Office Ladies. At  recess he played tag with about 30 squealing girls and then played basketball with the boys.

What a fantastic program...what a fantastic memory for both of them! Hopefully this program will continue and Bobby can keep on doing this every year!

He might need to go ahead and rest up for when he goes with Ashton's class as a chaperon to the Rough Riders Baseball game in May!
