Earrings.

Today was a day for the memory books at the Bryce House.  Our littlest girl got earrings.....yes she got her ears pierced.  We were all shocked to say the least!  Let me begin with a little history as to how this all came about.

As a parent of a little girl, there are things (decisions you have to make) you have to think about like pierced ears, shaving legs, make up etc. Well,  Bobby and I decided when Ashton was a baby that we would let Ashton get her ears pierced when she knew what it meant to have her ears pierced, how it was done and when she was ready to do it. We were totally thinking she would be around age 10.  Well, when she became aware that her cousin Peyton had her ears pierced when she was three, Ashton wanted it done. She had talked about it for a long time and we kept thinking the talk would go away and the idea would fizzle out. We were wrong...so wrong!

Then Ashton decided that since she was three like Peyton was, she wanted her ears pierced and she wanted Mamo to be here when she had it done. So when Mamo came to visit for a work conference we still thought there was no way it was going to happen...we knew our "noise sensitive" child would never ever go through with it. We were ready to bet every cent we had that she wouldn't do it...well it was a good thing we really didn't make that bet. She totally did it...and shocked us all!  So much for Ashton being 10ish when she got her ears pierced.  Parent Lesson #523 learned: don't leave major decisions open ended!

Now fast forward to the present. We have a 3 year old who wants to be EXACTLY like her big sister. Landry is like an 8.5 year old in a 3 year old body. She has been talking about getting her own earrings to match Mommy and Ashton for months. I mean probably since she turned 3 in January. This girl doesn't forget things...ever!

Since Bobby's parents were here watching the girls while we went to Mexico and since Landry wanted to have her ears pierced while sitting in Papo's lap we did it the day they left to head back home to Alabama.
Lan-Lan talked about it non-stop all day...the girl was excited. She was excited until we started heading that way. Then she thought she maybe didn't want to do it...to which we said that was totally fine and we were hoping that would be the end of it. We were wrong yet again.

We decided to at least go and if she changed her mind then that would be okie dokie. As we were walking into the mall, I said there was a 95% chance that this was not going to happen. Well, this was one of those times when Landry completely shocked us.

We walked into the store and she saw the card with the earring choices and it was game over. She quickly chose the ones she wanted and was ready to sit in the chair and get it done.  She changed her mind and decided she wanted to sit in Mommy's lap...it was a good thing because Papo was a little nervous, he didn't want her to start crying or be hurt while she was in his lap.

Daddy was our photographer to capture this experience...
In the chair ready to roll
Cleaning her itty bitty ears...
Getting "purple polka dots" to mark the spot...
Here we go...earring #1
D-O-N-E!!! One down and one to go. You'll notice not one tear was shed. She made a face but didn't cry! She was so happy to see her earring in her ear. She was ready for the second to go in!
She didn't cry at all. Not one single tear. This face was all she did and after it was over, she said "That hurt a little bit" and in the next breath she asked for a sucker.
The smile that came across her face when she saw her earrings in the mirror was priceless. Our little Lan-Lan P beamed for the rest of the afternoon. She was so proud of her earrings!
Up close shot of her earrings...she was thrilled to match Mommy and Sisser!
This makes me laugh...these days when LP takes a picture her eyes look like they are closed so we told her to open her eyes and this is what she gave us.
After she got her ears pierced she enjoyed a yummy M&M cookie as a special treat!

A picture to commemorate the occasion with Mamo, Sisser, Daddy, and Papo.
When we got home from the big ear piercing event, Landry wanted to use her photog skills to take a picture of Mamo and Papo...not bad for a three year old!

I still can't believe Landry went through with it and got her ears pierced. She loves showing them off to anyone who will look. She is awfully proud of her bling!

Tonight after dinner she decided she didn't want them anymore because they were hurting.  She wanted us to take them out. Once we gave her a little Tylenol she was happy once again and in love with her earrings. Let's just hope we have an easy time with them just like we did with Ashton. I am aware of how different kids in the same family are so I am preparing myself for what is to come and hopefully I will be surprised!

I couldn't believe it when I spotted them at MyGym! I am impressed. I can't even imagine Elyse going through with that! The earring are adorable. I also love Mom's very happily relieved face after the first ear was done! That had to be nerve racking! Love the recap. :-)
