I am continually amazed at how different our two girls are...I am aware they have opposite personalities, but I just keep preparing myself with what I know and have experienced before (for example: trips to the dentist with Ashton). You would think that by now I wouldn't be surprised at these kinds of things!
All of this babbling takes me back to the fact that today Landry went to the dentist for the second time in her life. I have never met a kid who was so excited about going to the dentist! She literally was giddy and beaming. On the drive there, she kept asking me if she was going to get to sit in the BIG chair this time. I told her I didn't know since last time we had her exam in the office with her sitting in my lap to get her acclimated.
We walked in and got her all checked in...she kept asking when it was going to be her turn and luckily they came out pretty quickly to get her so I didn't have to answer that same question every 30 seconds. We walked over to the hygienist and answered a few questions AND we were able to answer "NO" to not having her BINK anymore....woooo-hooooo!
So as we were standing there, this is what my 3 year old child said to me:
"Mommy you can go sit in dat chair, I don't need you to come wif me. I can go by myself!"
Um....excuse me....what?!
I looked at the hygienist and asked if that was okay and she said, "Oh sure we can see if she will do it by herself."
Lan-Lan P took the hygienist's hand and skipped back there and waved at me as she went.
I nearly lost it....I wasn't ready for that...not even a little bit!
I sat in my chair with the door in my direct line of vision because I just knew she would change her mind once she got back there and figured out what was going on. I texted Bobby and tried to hold myself together...my 3 year old "Little Miss Independent" had just told me she didn't need me...on her second trip to the dentist. Our first time was 6 months ago in September.
They didn't come out to get me until she was finished. When I walked back there she was beaming and jumped down off the "BIG" chair to give me a hug. The hygienists were telling me how cute and animated she was and how much she chatted with them and how she told anyone that would listen about the Bink Fairy coming to visit her. They LOVED her animated little self! They said she did awesome!
I was so proud of her and stunned at the same time. I could not believe she did it!
She got her gold coin and got to pick a prize out of the "SPECIAL" cabinet since she doesn't have her bink anymore. She chose some princess accessories and was so thrilled to get a bouncy ball out of the prize machine with her gold coin.
Here's our Littlest Girl with all her goodies after her dentist appointment--fake smile and all!
All she wanted to do was get in the car and call her Daddy to tell him all about it!
In this case, it pays to have an older sibling who is TOTALLY idolized by the younger one....Landry sees Ashton doing this stuff and all she knows is that if Ashton does it, she wants to do it! She has no idea how nervous Ashton gets when she goes to the dentist, she just thinks it is cool to do the same thing as Ashton.
I can add this to the list of things I didn't expect...the girl is making the major things easy for us but I guess that makes up for the "spunkiness" she gives us on a regular basis!
