One thing we know and expect about Texas weather is that it is crazy at times. This week was a truly unusual week and one for the record books for sure. Larry Mowry, our weather guy, was telling us to be prepared for some pretty monstrous winter weather...this happens a lot and it usually ices and we get a day off school and are good to go for the next day since the ice melts. Well, this time that wasn't the case at all!
Late Monday night it started to rain and sleet--this rain and sleet continued through until Tuesday morning and since the temps were in the teens all that rain and sleet left us with a 2" layer of ice. And since the temperatures were so low, the ice didn't melt and the entire DFW area was shut down for FOUR days. Yes...we were in lock down for FOUR whole days! We were home from 4:00 pm on Monday until around 10:30 am on Saturday morning...you wanna talk about cabin fever, we had it! I have never seen anything like it in all my life!
Bobby had to get out twice for work but wasn't gone long. He spent the rest of his days buried in his office since everyone he works with was stuck at home too. His computer and phone were going non-stop!
While Daddy was busy working (and we were reminded why we need a house where Daddy's office is away from the rest of the house), I was able to get some packing done while the girls played and played and played. Keep in mind that they are on limited toys and stuff since we put a bunch of stuff in storage and I was packing what I could so that made it a bit more challenging. We pretty much stayed in our jammies the entire time. We would rotate them out for clean ones....it was fantastic! We also snuggled up and watched movies to help pass the time. The Wii got a major workout, those girls busted out some serious dance moves with Just Dance2 and Just Dance Kids.
Somehow I didn't pick up the camera until Friday so I don't have many pictures.
It is amazing how much damage two little girls can do in such a short amount of time. You could barely see the floor in the girls' rooms by the end of every day when we cleaned up!
On Friday, we made homemade chicken noodle soup, it was perfect and so yummy!
By the end of the week, I decided I needed to do something fun with the girls..we exhausted all possibilities. They both LOVE to help me cook so we decided we needed to bake something. Ashton chose cake balls so that is what we did.
These two sneaky munchkins were unwrapping the chocolates so we could melt them and dip the cake balls. Somewhere in the process, a few ended up in their mouths!
We ran out of Valentine sprinkles so we improvised with Halloween. Ashton pointed out that they taste the same anyway...smart kiddo! We enjoyed munching on these yummy cake balls and they tasted especially good since we had four little hands helping!
This is the fountain at the entrance to our neighborhood. As we finally made it out of the house on Saturday we had to take a picture since this was most likely the last time it was going to freeze like this while we were still in our house. We have seen this fountain frozen a handful of times in our 6 years of living here.
We enjoyed the time together (and it was together) for the most part! I am the kind of person that I like being home because I want to be and not because I have to be. The girls loved not having to go anywhere and they loved being able to hang out in jammies and dress up clothes all day everyday. I am SO glad this lock down happened while we were still in our house and not in the apartment...I have a feeling that would not have been fun!
Hopefully we are done with this icky winter weather. We live in Texas for a reason! Ice is no fun at all! Oh and did I mention that this was Super Bowl weekend and Super Bowl was held in Dallas this year?! The city was in freak out mode and focused on all things (and roads) Super Bowl related! It was a doozy and one for the record books!
