We have spent many of our weekends over the last month or so getting our house ready to be put on the market and the girls have done an amazing job of cooperating through it all ... so we were happy to take a day off and spend it at the fair.
We normally go to the fair every other year and we normally like to go with our peeps. The last time we went to the fair, I was pregnant with Landry so we skipped a couple of years and this year we went by ourselves because our peeps weren't able to go with us.
...and rode it all the way to Fair Park. Once we got on and started going, it hit me that we had never taken our kid who gets motion sick on a train before! I really need to remember that she gets motion sick. I kinda started to panic (on the inside of course so neither of the girls saw me sweat) and thought to myself: "What if she pukes? I don't have a plastic bag. There are a bunch of people on here, we can't just get off and walk or drive the rest of the way. What am I gonna do?"
I just made sure she was facing the direction the train was moving in, and I made sure she could see out the window by having he stand in my lap. I was so relieved when we arrived and she was totally fine!
She was pretty excited...she kept calling it a tractor instead of a train.
We arrived at the fair just after it opened and our first stop was the Car Show. The girls had a blast getting in and pretending to drive the cars. Daddy and I had a chance to look at some cars too.
After we
The Dog Show is really neat. The guy who does it rescues dogs and trains them to use in his shows. There are three parts with separate tricks. The first part is the Frisbee portion where the dogs chase frisbees and do flips and catch an insane amount in a row. Seeing how Buster never was able to jump and catch anything, it was fun to watch, especially in person. The second part was the part where the dogs run, jump and catch a frisbee all before they land in the water and swim to the ladder. This was by far the fave. One of the dogs doing this trick only had 3 legs and his name was Nubs. The last part was the race over an obstacle course chasing a fake rabbit. Those dogs were fast...so fast I didn't get any pictures.
It was fun to watch the girls with wide eyes and listen to them cheer, clap, and squeal with delight. Landry even sat for the entire 20 minutes with no squirming...that is a first!
She was totally and completely into the show....she loved every single second!
A quick pic with Daddy and his girls.
Big Tex....He talks and the sound of his voice can be heard by all the fair goers. Check out his big ole boots...
After a little lunch we headed to the Midway for some fun that only ended up consisting of games. Ashton had been telling me she might go on the Ferris Wheel with me...Daddy isn't a fan of things like that so I haven't been on one in years. Needless to say I was super excited to ride the Ferris Wheel with Ashton. Yeah well, that totally didn't happen. Once she saw it, she changed her mind and Daddy said he would go on it too (only because he knew there was no way Ashton would go on it) and we could all go as a family. That didn't work. In fact, there were no rides ridden by the Bryce Fam. Landry wasn't big enough and Ashton was "too big for the baby rides" and she wasn't ready for the other rides yet.
That is okay...I wasn't surprised by my super cautious little girl. We had fun with a few games instead and we watched lots of rides.
One of Ashton's all time favorite games...Ski Ball.
Landry even got a turn to play a few games that were perfect for her like this ducky game.
She wasn't too happy about having to choose a small prize, she wanted the bigger ones.
Ashton tried her aim at the balloons...with a dart! She actually did pretty well, she got two out of three!
Momma and her two favorite girls!
Next stop was the Backyard Animals exhibit. They had some pretty cute little baby friends...
Then we moved on to the Petting Zoo which was a hit...
Landry wants to be a giraffe for Halloween so when we walked in and saw the very first animal was a giraffe, she was all kinds of thrilled! She has never seen a giraffe this close up before...and she even got to touch it and pet it! Needless to say, that girl was in total awe and loved every second of it!
We all got a kick out of his long black tongue. He was loving the salty bugle chip he was being fed!
And this little gal was only ONE day old...she was born yesterday you can even see her cord still hanging and she was super wobbly and fuzzy and cute!
There is her proud momma!
Ashton is our "cautious, let me observe what is going on first kiddo" where Landry is the "fearless let me at it kiddo". She was not the least bit hesitant to touch and feed every animal she could get her hands on.
Ashton had her turn feeding the animals too...only she was kind of annoyed they weren't that hungry.
The next stop was this fun and very educational farm...
This is one of my favorite parts and the girls loved it too!
The kids walk in and are given an apron and a bucket to use as they become cute lil farmhands! They got feed for the animals, watered the fruit trees and picked a peach. Then they planted a seed in the vegetable garden and picked one to put in their basket. They went into the chicken coop, fed the chickens and collected an egg for their basket. They fed the cow, milked her and picked up a milk carton. The milking of the cow was super cool!
After the cow was milked, they headed over to feed the sheep. They loaded their feed into the tractor and drove it to the sheep and collected the wool.
Once they finished all the farm hand's work, they delivered the goods and were paid a special dollar to use in the store. They each chose a snack with their dollar...so cute and so fun!
Our last stop on the fair was to have us a FUNNEL CAKE! I'm not sure a funnel cake has ever been consumed so fast! You would have thought Landry had never been fed before...she could have eaten one all by herself! She was shoveling it in so fast because it was that good and she wanted it to herself!
By the end of our fair trip, we were all exhausted. We loaded back up on the DART and headed to the car. The girls were pooped and zonked immediately. If Landry falls asleep in the car, you know she is tired because the girl rarely falls asleep in the car!
A fun filled day at the TEXAS State Fair was had by the Bryce Fam. The girls had such a good time and Daddy and I could watch them all day anyday. The weather was perfect, the girls were perfect, the day was perfect even with Landry missing her nap!
