Happy Birthday Buster...

Friday was Buster's 10th Birthday...that is a long time for an English Bulldog whose lifespan is 8-10 years. So we wanted to make sure we celebrated Buster's birthday since it was a biggie! Another reason to celebrate...we have a 6 year old in our house who LOVES birthdays.

It was actually quite funny on Friday morning. While Ashton was eating breakfast she said to me," Mommy can you believe Buster is ten years old and he is still alive? Wow!" She thinks the fact that he is still alive is amazing because she read that tidbit of info in one of the non-fiction dog books she has been checking out from the library at school. The English Bulldog book taught all kinds of "interesting" facts about bulldogs. {For the record...we have read pretty much every single book on every dog breed imaginable.}

Anyway, Bobby and I got Buster just after we celebrated our first wedding anniversary. He was one of four boys in the litter. You won't believe this....he was born by C-section (we actually have pictures of his birth) and he was the only brindle puppy in the litter. We knew we were getting him before he was born. My brother-in-law's parents had Buster's Momma....Dixie.

So for his birthday, I decided that after I picked Ashton up from school we would go and let her pick out a present for him. Since he is blind and deaf these days...the best present for him is a ginormous bone that he can devour outside in the nice spring air.

I also decided it would be fun for us to make him some special birthday treats since we have never done that before. Well....one of Ashton's friends invited her for a play date at the last minute. Ashton has really wanted to have a play date with her so we postponed the birthday celebration to Saturday. Buster didn't mind one bit.

This is one of Landry's favorite things to do to Buster....give him HUGS!

Saturday morning, Ashton and I went to Target {in the fuh-reezing cold...like 32 degrees} to get the few ingredients we didn't have. Once we got home, we were busy baking the treats for Buster. They didn't smell so great, but Buster loved them.

Bulldog Banana Bites...Ashton chose the recipe.

When we brought Ashton home from the hospital, Buster would lay in front of her bedroom door and "guard" her. He also liked to smell and sometimes lick her feet when she was in her swing. He never ever got into her toys and never even touched them. It was like he knew they weren't his. He has always been super sweet with Ashton and Landry. Buster was 3 years old when Ashton was born.

In Buster's younger days {here he is at age 3}, he LOVED him some plastic soda bottles to chew on. He would get so excited when we would give him one.

When we lived in Colorado {he is 4 years old in this picture}, he loved the snow, but didn't like being cold so he was never out in it very long.

Our Buster Man when he was five...such a pretty dog!

Six years old and back in Texas where the grass is green!

Sitting pretty at seven years old...waiting patiently for a treat! He sits and waits until we say "OK" before he gets his treat. Such a well mannered boy!

Happy Birthday Buster...we have loved our TEN years with you.

Happy Birthdog to your "firstborn"! Love the photo of Buster guarding his li'l sispup. BTW, today is Dickens' imaginary 14th birthday (since I rescued her when she was a tiny kitten in the alley) and she got Tuna...she loves that!
