Today was another very historic day....Barack Obama was inaugurated as our 44th President. He is the first African-American to be President of the United States.
Ashton was very "aware" of the election this year and so naturally she was very interested in the whole inauguration process. Bobby and I had the tv on during parts of the day watching some of the major events that took place. We both said that we hoped Ashton would get to see the inauguration footage while she was at school since it was such a monumental day.
When I picked her up today, she was very excited to tell me how they watched CNN during lunch and they got to watch some of the inauguration. She also told us they watched in their classroom for a few minutes too.
When we got home from dance and finished dinner, she plopped herself on the couch and was mesmerized by the inauguration footage. She had learned about Martin Luther King, Jr and wanted to know if Bobby and I were alive when he was shot. We told her we weren't but her grandparents were...she couldn't believe it. And now, today she is witnessing a new part of our history and what makes our country so great! She was able to see how Martin Luther King's Dream has come to fruition...completely!
It was amazing to me to see the number of people that turned out in Washington, DC to witness history! I am so glad that our girls are able to witness this day even if Landry won't remember it. I hope that Ashton will remember it! We do live in an awesome country and we are so extremely lucky to have the freedoms that we have.

I love this post! You've got it--it's historic! We watched it all morning long in my classroom. I was so glad my principal allowed us to do that. I want my students to be able to say, "I remember where I was-I was in my 3rd grade classroom when that happened." It's huge. Glad Ashton got to watch it too!
Hi Erin! Sorry to be MIA lately... Jags is so so sick (we're watching him so close to make sure it doesn't turn into pneumonia, poor baby!) ... but I finally got smart and dragged the laptop in here so that I can hear him breathe, AND blogsurf! Glad to see you all are still doing well ... can you believe I thought quickly enough to snap Jagger's picture in front of the tv Inauguration? So spontaneous!
thank you for all of the sweet comments! :)
