So I just have to start by saying that I absolutely LOVE our six year old daughter! She makes us smile and laugh all the time! She is the queen of what we think is random, but to her it makes perfect sense! Let me explain...
So a week or so ago, we were sitting at the dinner table and we happen to be eating soup out of a can. And all of a sudden...out of the blue, she busts out with this: "I think we should make our own soup one day!" Bobby and I both looked at each other and asked why she thought that and she responded with..."well, I think it would just taste better." So we told her that would be a good idea and we would need to do it.
Last Saturday while Landry was playing in her room and we were all in there, Ashton left and came back with a piece of paper and a pencil. She sat in Landry's rocker and began writing...her very own recipe for chicken soup! She had listed the ingredients and I do have to say she did a very good job. Here is what her list of ingredients looked like:
Ashton's Chicken Soup
*chiken brest
*chiken
*noodls
*vesdubols, celerea, caris, pepers (she asked us what kind of veggies we wanted in our soup)

After listening to her read off her list of ingredients, here is the conversation that followed:
Mommy: What are you going to use for the soup liquid?
Ashton: Oh, that is the chicken breast
Mommy: Do you mean chicken broth?
Ashton: Yes! That is what I meant!
So then, I told her she needed to write out the rest of the recipe so we would know how to cook it. Here is the finished recipe which she kept in a very special princess folder so it wouldn't get lost or messed up! She even carried the folder into the store with us!
The "official" Ashton Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe
1. chiken broth
2. chiken, - 1 pak
3. vesdubols celerea, caris, pepers
4.noodl
5. cook chiken in pot 43 min
6.cook noodl 41 min
7.cook vesdubols 20 min
{we didn't actually follow these cooking times}
So we had planned to make her soup for dinner tonight which was perfect since it was really, really cold today. I am talking in the 20's! Since Ashton didn't have school today, I took the girls to the store so Ashton could gather the ingredients needed for her special soup. I took her to each aisle for what she needed and she chose the brand and type of ingredients all by herself!
She chose to get 1 large box of chicken broth, but we ended up needing two so Daddy went back to the store for us. She also picked out shell shaped noodles...we used half the box. She decided we needed a red, yellow, and green pepper so we would have colorful soup.
I have never seen a girl so excited to get cookin' before. I let her help cut the veggies...she poured in the broth, helped cook the noodles and added the chicken after it was cooked and cut. Then it came time for the spices...I listed the different spices we had and she chose to use salt, pepper, Emeril's Original Essence, and Montreal Chicken Seasoning. She did so good adding just a little at a time. We tested and tested until it was just right!
We ended up having a delicious chicken noodle soup with bread for our supper tonight! It was actually very tasty! The best part was that this was Ashton's creation...who knows maybe we will have a future chef on our hands!
I love this girl and her random ideas! I had a lot of fun doing this with her...it gave us some Mommy and Ashton time! She was so proud of herself and wanted Daddy to watch her cutting and putting things into the pot!
