Ashton...The Narrator!

The first graders at Ashton’s school had been studying folk tales and the teachers thought it would be fun for the kids to do a play. So the first graders performed “The Mitten” by Jan Brett on Thursday morning. What a fun treat right before Winter Break!

We found out a few weeks ago that Ashton was going to be the narrator for her class. Since there are 5 classes, she was Narrator #4. She actually had a few different parts and she participated in the songs as well. She did so good!

Her teacher had told us that since she was going to be a narrator, she would need to wear all white with a hat and gloves. You would think finding all white would be easy….nope! I hunted and hunted for white sweats, then I just hunted for anything white. During the winter, they only sell cream colored things.

She read with such great expression and inflection in her voice! It was so cute listening to her. We didn’t practice with her at home…they did all the practicing at school and her teachers did a great job preparing them! I would include video…but it is horrible footage…I was trying to feed Landry snacks to keep her entertained and quiet while video taping. Bobby took the still camera and went up closer. Not only that, we weren’t able to get just her and I don’t want to put other kids on the internet.

The only mishap of the play happened while Ashton was reading her part…the bell rang which caused the microphone to stop working. Ashton kept on going without missing a beat. She just read louder just like one of the teachers told her too!

Miss Jodi even came to watch after she dropped Carly off at school! Ashton was so excited…in fact, I think she was more excited that Miss Jodi came than the fact that we were there.

She is such the performer and LOVES it! When I picked her up that day, her teacher told me that her principal had commented on how well the narrators did speaking so clearly! I also had many other parents comment at the winter party on Friday at how well she did. Way to go Ashton….we are so proud of you!
