Here are the details…
Our really close friends, Chris and Kynda, just moved to Bastrop which is just southeast of Austin. Chris had been a coach at Plano East and was offered the Offensive Coordinator position in Bastrop; so they moved. When he coached in Plano, the three of us Bryce’s would go to the games with Kynda. We always had dinner before the game and it was a tradition….that Ashton loved. She even had a Plano East t-shirt she wore to the games along with her pom-poms.
Anyway, Bobby and Martin were going down for the first game and Ashton decided she wanted to go too. Bobby picked Ashton up from school early (I know many of you are shocked right now but…it was the end of the first week, right before a long holiday weekend and she wasn’t really missing anything so I was okay with it…just this once!) I HATE that I had to miss the trip, but with Lan-Lan P having her bedtime right at kickoff, and a 4 hour drive I knew it would me more miserable than enjoyable for all involved so she and I stayed home. Sure enough, Landry was in bed asleep by 7:10.
Daddy bought Ashton the new Ariel movie to watch for part of the ride down and she napped for the other part. They stopped to see my Dad in Lorena and got snacks. When they got to Bastrop, they picked up Kynda and headed to Taco Cabana for dinner. Then it was on to the game…they won in overtime!!! This team only won one time last year so they are off to a good start!
Ashton called to check on us a few times and Kynda kept me updated on the score by texting me numerous times throughout the game. They spent the night with Aunt Kynda and Uncle Chris, woke up, grabbed some breakfast and were on their way home!
Daddy and Mr. Martin explained to her that a road trip is where you drive somewhere far away, do something fun, and turn around and come home. She thought that was pretty neat. I sure did miss them while they were gone…and was soooo glad when they came home! It was another great memory for Ashton and something else for her and her Daddy to share together. In fact, she told her Daddy she was going to write about this trip in her journal at school. Boy, did that ever make her Daddy feel good!
