As I am waiting outside Ashton’s school to pick her up, she comes running to me holding her hand over a necklace she had gotten. She has the biggest grin on her face and says (as she is running to me) “Mommy, Mommy, guess what happened today?” Before I could answer she shows me her necklace. It is a little plastic tooth…inside is HER TOOTH!!!
Mommy: Did you pull it out?
Ashton: No.
Mommy: Did the nurse pull it out?
Ashton: No.
Mommy: (I am starting to think she let another kid stick their hands in her mouth…yuck) Did Mrs. Allen pull it out?
Ashton: No.
Mommy: Well then how did it come out?
Ashton: I was chewing on the string from my shorts, and all of a sudden, I was like, hmmm what is that. It felt kind of weird. Then I felt something in my mouth and I spit it out and it was my TOOTH! So the PE coaches let me go to the nurse. And guess what?! It didn’t even bleed, and it didn’t even hurt that much!
I was shocked! I never in a million years thought she would lose her first tooth at school. She was so proud of herself…I was thinking “holy cow, this is another major milestone for the books. I can’t believe it!” I was a little teary eyed but super excited for her!
She chatted the whole way home…the weather here is beautiful right now so we walked. As we are walking she says, “Mommy we need to take a picture and you need to put this on the blog. That’s my girl…a blog lover! I assured it would totally go on the blog. We went inside so she could tell her Daddy. I wanted to be there to see his reaction. She comes bee-boppin’ into his office and proceeds to show him and tell him the story. He is stunned. We both had teary eyes…she left the room and we looked at each other and just kept saying, “can you believe that?”
So, last night at bedtime we got down her sassy little tooth pillow Auntie Megan had gotten for her so she could put her tooth in it. She put it next to her on her bed and waited for the tooth fairy to come visit. She actually woke up in the middle of the night because Buster was whining (which he NEVER does). She said to me, Mommy, my tooth pillow is gone. I told her we would find where the tooth fairy put it when we got up in the morning. She popped out of bed when I came in to wake her up for school and discovered the tooth fairy had left her stuff on counter in her bathroom.
The tooth fairy brought her a note, a certificate, $5 dollars, these toothbrushes with a light that flashes for 1 minute, and some special pink anti-cavity and fluoride rinse. She was most excited by the rinse

Well if you can believe it, her day got even better. Since the weather was so nice she and Daddy decided to practice riding her bike with no training wheels.
Back at the end of July she decided she wanted to take her training wheels off her bike. She was afraid to fall so we thought having her practice in the grass would be good so if she fell, she wouldn’t hurt herself and it would help her build some confidence.
Parenting Tip they don’t have a manual for: This is a bad idea…riding a bike in the grass is very difficult. Start out on the sidewalk with safety pads.
After several attempts ending in frustration (it was much harder than she thought) we took a break from practicing. On Friday, she tells us at supper she wants to practice riding her bike. So she and Daddy went out on the sidewalk, she did it twice on her own!
Taking off the training wheels back at the end of July...
Well today, we all went outside. Landry and I sat on a blanket and I had both cameras ready. It literally took her seconds to do it. Bobby held on to the bike to stabilize her then let go and off she went. She hopped off her bike, ran down the sidewalk to me to give me the biggest hug ever. Then she hopped on again and off she went. She jumped off and gave her Daddy the biggest hug. She was jumping up and down squealing. We kept telling her how proud we were of her and she says, “Well I am so proud of myself!”
