Not only did she check out a NON-FICTION book, but she also read the first two pages of it with little help from us. There were only a handful of words she needed help with. The best part was she thought she wouldn’t be able to read it since there were SO many words on the page. She surprised herself. She learned so much just by reading the first two pages seeing as how she had never heard of a Shetland Pony before. I love asking her questions to see how well she is comprehending and I also love hearing the connections she makes. Hearing her ask questions as she is reading is also pretty neat.
This is a picture of the first page she read. The words we helped her with were: Shetland, average, breeds, supplies, popular, islands, recieve, Scotland, certain
I just wanted to document for her sake the first non-fiction book she checked out all on her own. I think she will enjoy reading this years from now.
*This is her first project of first grade. They had to make an ALL ABOUT ME person that showed things they are interested in. She did all the work by herself…with help on the softball cleats. She had fun painting, coloring, gluing, and adding glitter. She even picked the font, typed the words, and cut them out by herself!

Ashton, I love your paper doll of YOU! I imagine you had a lot of fun making it--you are a person who has many different interests and it is so much fun for us to see that in you! Love you..Mamo
