Cooking at Apple Creek...

This week Ashton and Macy went to a summer camp at their preschool. They allow kids to go through the age of 6 so this was the last time they will get to do a camp at Apple Creek. Grayson and Anna are doing a Hawaiian themed camp there which is why the “crew” wasn’t all together.

Ashton was very excited to go back…she absolutely LOVED Apple Creek when she was there. The school added on this year so the building was bigger…she had seen the construction but not the inside so she was very curious. On Monday when I picked her up she immediately began listing all the “new” things and what was different.

The theme for the camp this week was cooking through literature. They read many books and then cooked something to compliment the story. She is very much into cooking…she loves to watch Rachel Ray and the Food Network Challenges. She will help me cook any chance she gets. Her favorite food and favorite thing to cook is pancakes. This is always a meal we make when Bobby is not home for dinner…the best part for her is to pick out what color to make the pancakes. We put food coloring in them…she also always wants me to make a Baylor Bear pancake or Mickey Mouse (this came after my mom had done it for her…I was quickly informed that mine don’t look like Grammy’s…this is when we learned that it still tastes the same)

Okay…sorry for my detour of rambling…getting back to the camp…

Here is the menu for the week:

Monday: Pizza! This is another one of Ashton’s favorite foods. After making AND rolling the dough they got to eat it…yum!

Tuesday: Frog Cookies! They made these with oreos, frosting, and pretzels. They made an apron and chef’s hat. I would love to include a picture…but she didn’t like hers and did not want me to put it on the blog or take a picture. See Macy for an example.

Wednesday: Pancakes and Green Eggs and Ham…This was by far Ashton’s favorite day! The color of the eggs didn’t bother her…she knows the color doesn’t taste as a result of our colorful pancakes. They read If You Give a Pig A Pancake and Green Eggs and Ham.

Thursday: Muffins. They made two kinds of muffins. One was strawberry which she thought was yummy! Another bonus: they read many Laura Numeroff stories in one big book. She thought that was super neat. Laura Numeroff is the author of the book If You Give a Moose a Muffin

Friday: Mouse Cookies. They “took 2 dough balls, a little one and a bigger one, and smashed them together to make the head and body”. Then they were able to decorate with m&ms or chocolate chips. The read If You Give A Mouse A Cookie by Laura Numeroff.
They made a SUPER CUTE recipe book with the recipes for all of the treats they made this week…and it has picture of her in her apron and hat….yay!

I am sad that she is completely done with Apple Creek…it was such a wonderful experience and I look forward to Landry’s days there!
