Celebration Learning...

Well…this begins the end of Ashton’s Kindergarten year in blog land. As I am typing this, she is already D-O-N-E-done. I have to be honest, while I am so proud of her and all that she has accomplished this year, at the same time I am so sad. To hear her say she is a “first grader” now just sounds so grown up and so very big. When I heard her say it for the first time, I got a lump in my throat. Time is going by so fast and I feel like this year has absolutely flown by.

On Wednesday, June 4th, her school had “Kindergarten’s Celebration of Learning”. I thought this would be kind of like a Kindergarten Graduation. I was looking forward to this because we didn’t get a big graduation in preschool. She didn’t do the pre-K program in preschool since she was able to enter kindergarten. I was disappointed there was no “graduation”…but very glad that at least we got something to mark the end of this important year.

We were told the kids should dress up very nice…this was the best news of all for Ashton. She LOVES to be all dressed up. Here is the conversation she and I had about her clothes for the big day.

Ashton: Mommy, Mrs. Weeks said we need to wear a pretty dress and be fancy for our celebration.

Mommy: So, what are you thinking you would like to wear?

Ashton: Well….I have that fancy aqua dress that twirls….I could wear that.

Mommy: Well honey, that is the dress you wanted to wear to Uncle Todd’s graduation but it was a little too tight, do you remember that? What would your next choice be?

Ashton: Well….I could always wear my pink and black dress that I wore to the Daddy Daughter Dance. That is VERY fancy.

We discussed it with Daddy and decided that would be fine if that is what she wanted to wear. She was thrilled to pieces especially since she got to wear the fancy black shoes too.

Back to the celebration…each child received an award in one of the following categories: Roaring Readers, Awesome Authors, Mighty Mathematicians, Super Scientists, and Outstanding Artists. Ashton was awarded a Roaring Reader Award. She is reading on a Level 18 which equates to early 2nd grade. She has always loved being read to and since January her reading has taken off and she loves to read. The awards were followed by a photo slide show of the year that the teachers put together.

I tried my hardest to hold in my tears…I teared up many times and had a lump through most of it. Here are pictures from her big day…
