So I have another story that we thought was too funny not to share…and we also need to document this stuff for Ashton to read when she is older.
Earlier today Bobby was out in the yard planning to cut down a tree we have in our front yard that is pretty much dead. It is a tree the builders planted when the house was built 3 years ago and it is not growing. We have had two different companies come out and look at it they both said it needs to come out. We could stand there and literally move it back and forth. We didn’t want it to fall on a kid or on the house. Anyway, Bobby is getting all of his tools and stuff ready when Ashton looks out her playroom window and sees what Bobby is doing. As he begins cutting the tree down she starts to cry hysterically and yells to him to stop. She runs outside and through all of her tears yells, “Daddy, stop! You can’t cut down that tree! What are you doing? The earth needs this tree. If you cut it down the earth won’t get the oxygen it needs so you can’t cut it down!” He calmly explains that the tree is dead and that we are going to replace it with a healthy tree. I told her that maybe we could recycle the tree. She was satisfied until she saw that he had the black trash can and not the blue recycling can. She again went into hysterics and very dramatically told her Daddy he had to recycle the tree if he was going to cut it down. He explained again very calmly that he couldn’t put in the recycling bin but that he would use the trunk for firewood. They also agreed she could put the limbs in the flower beds to turn into mulch. So she helped him put the limbs in the flower beds and was very proud to do it.
Before they came up with their agreement, she came inside went straight into her room and wrote a note to her friend Macy. She comes and tells me she needs an envelope and stamp so she could mail this note to Macy. I tried to explain that we could just give it to Macy quicker than mailing it (not to mention save the 42 cents from the stamp). This was not okay…she just HAD to mail it. I told that if she really wanted to mail it, she would need to bring me the money for the stamp out of her piggy bank. She replies, “Mommy, that is my money and I am trying to save it.” I said, well than you need to decide if you want to use your money to mail your note or we could just email her. That was a great idea.
So this evening before dinner she and I came in to email Macy. She sat in my lap and typed this note:
“Macy my Dad cut down the tree in our frut yord! And it was sad. It was ded beacaus it had ill nis.”
Love ashton
This girl is so funny and very passionate about things and the best part is, we never know what she is going to be sensitive and passionate about. We just love her to pieces and she keeps us on our toes!

I love these stories about Ashton! She is going to love reading these again one day. What a great gift you are giving her!
man...i love this kid!!!! :)
Oh my, that's funny stuff :)
Ashton's sensitivity brings tears to my eyes---partly because of the drama, but mostly because she cares so very much. I can just imagine the joy we are all going to experience as she goes through life!
She takes after her cousin Kelsie...a save the world recycle loving child!
