Easter Egg-stravaganza

On Saturday we took the girls to the big Easter egg hunt here in Frisco. It is called the Easter Eggstravaganza because they have over 60,000 plastic eggs they spread over the softball fields for the kids to collect. It is very organized and super quick! I need to give background info to those of you who have never heard about our previous experience.

When Ashton was 3, our friends the Leonards and the Scheers decided we would take the kids to this egg hunt. We thought it would be a lot of fun for them (Ashton, Macy and Grayson were all 3 and Anna was 1). It was fun for everyone but us!

Ashton has always been "overly sensitive" to loud noises. As a baby sneezes, opening a can of soda, etc would make her cry. Sirens or horns of any kind would send her over the edge. We were not able to have an enjoyable time watching fireworks until last summer. So at this egg hunt they used a fire truck siren/horn to start the hunt (it lasted maybe 5 seconds). She FREAKED out and screamed and cried. She stood there and would not move to go get the eggs. We told her if she wasn't going to get eggs she needed to move out of the way so other kids could get them. We went to sit in the dugout with her still crying hysterically and covering her ears. She wanted us to go get the eggs for her. We explained to her the noise was over and it wasn't going to hurt her and if she wanted the eggs she would have to get them herself. She refused. Meanwhile Macy, Grayson and Anna are getting eggs. At the end of the hunt everyone was trying to give her eggs from their basket. We had to tell them no because we had just spent the last 10 minutes telling her she was going to have to get her own. It was so hard for us to "stick to our guns" on this one...but we did.

So last year she said she didn't want to go...and we didn't. This year she said she wouldn't go if there was going to be a fire truck. Now that she is older we tried to reason with her she still didn't want to go. Bobby told her that was fine she didn't have to go if she didn't want to, we would get a babysitter for her because Landry wanted to go. She started to cry saying the fire truck would scare her baby sister and that it was something we should do as a family.

She decided she would go. She did awesome. She was very nervous but had a great time! They didn't even have a siren or horn this year. She got lots of eggs and had so much fun. Here are some pictures. Landry is under the blanket...it was very windy. She was in the Baby Bjorn all warm and cozy. So cozy and warm she went to sleep!

Erin, I am so glad you have learned how to Blog! I look very frequently and was so tickled tonight to see all of the new blogs! Every time I read one, I can hear my mother say "you should write that down"---usually after I had just told her something that one of the kids had said or done. Blogging is the perfect way to do that! Love you all...Susan
